Do you find it hard to distinguish between the different types of gastric surgeries?

It can be hard as a dietitian when someone is struggling from unexpected complications. Dumping syndrome is a condition that often affects people who've had GI surgery. It can feel very lonely for these patients because the symptoms are undesirable.

Fortunately, as dietitians, we can intervene and provide recommendations to make life a little easier and more manageable.

To help connect everything together, I share a case study of a patient who had a GI surgery and the challenges she experienced after her surgery.

This is what you'll learn in this episode:

1. What dumping syndrome is and the symptoms associated with early and late dumping syndrome
2. Common GI surgeries that increase the risk of developing dumping syndrome
3. How to manage dumping syndrome through Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) (Hint: Dietitians are AMAZING)

Here's a glance at this episode:

[05:00] A review of common GI tract procedures

[08:36] An overview of the symptoms associated with dumping syndrome

[11:50] A discussion of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) that can help control the symptoms associated with dumping syndrome

[15:00] A recap of dumping syndrome by applying the MNT to a case study

Whether you're an RD2Be or a Registered Dietitian needing a refresher, you're here for a reason and I'm so glad you are.
